The Cabin

A quintessential Vermont log cabin with a red roof sits beside a calm and peaceful pond, reflecting the house and surrounding trees, with a cloudy blue sky overhead.

“It felt like staying at a dear friend’s cabin — one with wonderful taste who thinks of everything.”

Welcome to Circe & Hare Lodge — a hillside log cabin tucked into Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Step inside and let the quiet settle in. Whether you’re here to rest by the fire, soak in the hot tub beneath the stars, wander nearby trails, or simply breathe a little deeper, the cabin offers space to slow down and feel at home.

Set on a slope overlooking a river and distant mountain peaks, the lodge blends traditional log-cabin craftsmanship with thoughtful, modern comforts. As hands-on owners, we’ve renovated and cared for the property ourselves, shaping each detail with intention. The land is organically maintained, surrounded by gardens, woods, and the steady, unobtrusive sounds of nature — offering a sense of privacy that feels quietly removed.

Inside, the difference is immediate. This isn’t a pared-back rental, but a home curated over time: plush seating, soft throws, fine linens, real art and antiques, and a kitchen equipped for those who enjoy cooking as much as gathering. Details reveal themselves slowly, inviting you to settle in rather than rush through.

At the center of the cabin, a stone fireplace rises alongside the open wooden staircase. Its warmth carries into both the living room and reading nook — a place to linger with a book as the light shifts through the day. The open living space flows easily into the kitchen and dining area, which open onto a natural wood deck overlooking the hillside, river, and rolling mountains beyond. Just outside, the hot tub sits tucked into the landscape.

The first-floor bath offers a quiet bit of indulgence, with heated tile floors, a washer and dryer, and soft robes for your stay.

Upstairs, three bedrooms each hold their own character. The primary suite, set behind sliding barn doors, looks out through vintage factory windows toward the fireplace below. Step onto the private balcony for a clear view of the night sky. Across the hall, two additional bedrooms and a generous walk-in closet provide space for rest, storage, and the small practicalities of a longer stay.

Guests come here to shift their pace — to spend time more intentionally, or simply to let the day unfold on its own. Mornings begin slowly, with coffee and light moving through the rooms. Afternoons might lead you out to explore, or keep you close to the house. By evening, everything draws inward again — to warmth, quiet, and the kind of stillness that’s harder to find elsewhere.

Circe & Hare Lodge is especially well suited to couples and smaller groups who tend to treat a place with the same care it was created with.

More than a getaway, it’s a place to settle in, reconnect, and experience Vermont’s seasons at their own pace.
